The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo review

The story: Journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) is publicly disgraced by a crooked businessman. He hides away from it all when he is hired to find out about a young girl’s disappearance 50 years earlier. Ward of the state Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) is a skilled hacker and a series of events leads her to help Blomkvist investigative the case. Yes it’s a lot fancier, as is the touch of American filmmaking on just about anything, but I much preferred Lisbeth when she wasn’t speaking English.

Rashell Says: So as the cool kids would say David Fincher’s remake of The Girl with the dragon Tattoo is a ‘fail’.

The original Swedish film (2009) was based on Stieg Larsson’s hugely successful book, one of three in the Millennium Trilogy and was produced by Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev.

It was raw, gritty, brutal and created an unbeatable and unbreakable heroin in its main character Lisbeth Salander played by the insanely talented Noomi Rapace.

While Rooney Mara is a very talented young girl and puts in a great performance as Lisbeth in this remake, she is let down by the “gloss” smeared all over this remake.

What really made me angry about this film was not the "polish" of it but the subtle changes in the plot, most noticeably the ending ( I won’t give it away but look away just in case), which leaves Lisbeth as a victim OF LOVE *insert gag reflex here*.

The original empowered the heroin, with the constant facing of obstacles and beating them down with her bare fists, in the remake she slightly slaps them at times.

Daniel Craig is forgettable in this, but then again it was never about him, rather her, the strong and unforgettable Lisbeth. Who in the remak, has become just as forgettable as that chick in that romcom you saw that day.
